Ranchi: Five girls reportedly drowned at two places of the state during Karam Dali immersion. Two girls drowned in Dhanbad and three in Hazaribagh have died due to drowning. A dead body has been found in Chauparan while two girls are still missing.
Both incidents occurred during the immersion of Karma Dali. Six girls had gone in to water body for immersion, three girls were somehow pulled out while three girls were swept away in the river. The body of one girl has been recovered while two are still missing. As soon as the girls started drowning in the river, the children present there shouted loudly and called the fishermen, due to which the lives of three were saved.
A team of divers has been called and their search is on. This incident took place in village Obra of Bachchai Panchayat of Chauparan block of Hazaribagh district. The second incident occurred in Dhanbad during Karam Dali immersion.
Two children drowned during Karma immersion in Matigadha Dam located on Jamunia river under Baghmara police station. Local people pulled both of them out of the river and took them to Dumra hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead.
The deceased were identified as 10-year-old Devraj Kumar and 14-year-old Saloni Kumari. Both are said to be residents of Matigadha. The bodies of both were taken to Matigadha. As soon as the dead body reached home, there was screaming among the family members.
After receiving the news of the incident, Baghmara MLA Dhulu Mahato reached his house. The MLA said that it is the direct responsibility of the local BCCL management to ensure complete arrangements for the maintenance and especially security of Matigadha Dam, but the indifferent attitude of the BCCL management has taken the lives of many people.
He also said that talks have been held with Baghmara CO, he has assured that as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Department, a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each will be provided to the families of both the deceased.
