Excise department raids against illegal liquor trade, five arrested

Ranchi: The Excise Department team conducted a raid campaign in five police station areas on Monday against illegal liquor trade. Raids were conducted in Gaadi Khana located in Kotwali police station area, Chutiya police station area Sirmatoli, Samlong in Namkum police station area and Hethu in Airport police station area.

During this period, 1200 kg Java Mahua, 197 liters of liquor and a scooter were recovered. The team also took action and arrested five persons. While two persons managed to escape. To increase the revenue, the station in-charge is running a campaign against illegal liquor trade.

Regarding this, Ranchi DC Rahul Kumar Sinha had issued instructions to SSP, Sadar and Bundu SDO. In the instructions issued, it was said that the Excise and Prohibition Department is the source of revenue for the state government.

Ranchi is an important district from the revenue point of view, whose annual revenue is assured at Rs 428 crore. In view of this, the excise department in Ranchi district is lacking in production force and resources. There are total 45 police stations in Ranchi district.

Therefore, the station in charge and CO, from their level, should launch an intensive raid campaign against those doing illegal liquor business to increase sales in retail product shops. Also, if complaints of adulteration, illegal or MRP are received in the retail shops run by JSBCL, action should be taken as per rules.
