E-pass system to continue in state, HC dismisses petition

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition challenging the use of E-pass in the state.

The court in its order said that the pass was important and there was no need to go on a bike to get vegetables and milk. The court said that it was a policy decision that had been taken by the state government to check the spread of Coronavirus.

The court of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice SN Prasad after hearing the arguments of all the sides dismissed the petition. Rajan Kumar Singh a resident of Dhurwa had filed a PIL demanding the process of e-pass should be made very easy.

The petitioner had said that lots of details are being asked while getting the pass made which was a violation of privacy as the person has to give details of his activities to the state government.

As part of restrictions imposed in wake of Health Safety Week from May 16-27 for travelling the government has made e-pass compulsory for private vehicles.
