Ranchi: Department of Telecommunications conducted a webinar on the EMF radiation of mobile towers to make aware the common people. The webinar was conducted under the chairmanship of Girijesh Kumar Mishra, Senior Deputy Director-General, Bihar LSA, Patna and those who also participated included Ramesh Chandra, Deputy Director-General, Ranchi, Supriya Jaiswal, Director, Ranchi, Rekha Choudhary, Principal, Maryland Institute of Management and Technology, Jamshedpur.
The programme was coordinated by Vishal Vikram, Director, Ranchi. G K Mishra expressed his views that there are more than 45,000 BTSs working in Jharkhand State and out of that more than 16,000 BTSs have been audited during the last 7 years and found within the prescribed limit fixed by the Government of India. During the 7 years period, it was found that a myth is being spread about
the health hazardous due to mobile tower radiation which is beyond the truth.
He continued that India is a popular Country, have been adopting 10 times stringent condition as per ICNIRP guideline. BTS tower and mobile handset both fall under the category of radiation of mobile BTS is regularly being regulated by TERM unit whereas radiation of mobile handset may be measured by typing *#07#. He said that the Government of India has been having various important projects on radio frequencies, for example, Digital India, Smart City, Broadband Mission. The success of such projects depends upon the strengthening of mobile towers.
Ramesh Chandra, DDG, Ranchi expressed that it was seen during the Covid-19 for spreading fake messages on WhatsApp conveying the spread of Covid-19 because of radiation from 5G towers which was a myth. It was also seen in Jharkhand state that at some of the locations, common public resisted to install mobile tower for the fear of health hazardous. Guest speaker Dr Rekha Choudhary and Supriya Jaiswal, Director, Ranchi expressed the views that mobile tower radiation is no way hazardous to health. Dr Rekha Choudhary quoted the study carried out by USA, UK, Denmark etc in this regard.
