Dismiss minister Hafeezul for insulting Constitution: Raghubar Das

Ranchi: Former Chief Minister Raghubar Das has strongly condemned the recent statement made by minister Hafeezul Hassan who allegedly claimed that Sharia law is above the Indian Constitution. Das said it was both unfortunate and shameful that the minister, who had taken oath under the Constitution, could make such a statement.

He remarked that while the minister assumes office by swearing allegiance to the Constitution, he then goes on to declare Sharia superior to it — revealing his true character. “Today, the entire country is observing the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution. Making such a statement on this day is not just an insult to Babasaheb, but also an affront to the Constitution and the dignity of a constitutional post,” said Das.

He demanded that the minister be immediately removed from the cabinet. “Someone holding such views should resign from the government and instead join institutions like the Muslim Personal Law Board,” he added.

Das further questioned whether the minister also advocates for Sharia punishments, such as flogging, in the Indian legal system.
