Mumbai- Actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee has expressed concern over the presence of swords during a student protest, questioning how weapons became part of a demonstration that was initially described as peaceful.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the actress reshared a video posted by another user and wrote, “Student protest with Swords?”
The video purportedly showed a group of protesters displaying swords in front of police personnel during the demonstration. Reacting to the visuals, Devoleena questioned the presence of such weapons at a protest that had been presented as a peaceful movement.
The actress has been vocal about the ongoing student protests in recent days. Earlier, she had commented on climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s movement, saying that its original objective appeared to be losing focus. She also appealed to students to ensure that their protest remained centred on education and was not diverted from its intended purpose.
On Wednesday, Devoleena also reacted to the protest backed by Sonam Wangchuk that turned chaotic earlier this week. Sharing another video on social media, she voiced concern that the movement was straying from its initial agenda.
The clip she shared allegedly featured a young man claiming that the youth would now sit in Parliament and make decisions, adding that there was no longer any need for older people. Responding to the video, the actress wrote a detailed note expressing worry over what she described as an unwelcome shift in the direction of the protest.
While extending her support to Sonam Wangchuk, Devoleena cautioned against allowing the movement’s focus to change.
On the work front, Devoleena became a household name with her portrayal of Gopi Bahu in the popular television show Saath Nibhana Saathiya. Her on-screen chemistry with her reel mother-in-law Kokila was widely appreciated by audiences. She later participated in the reality show Bigg Boss, further expanding her popularity.
