Deer spotted in Ghatsila village after straying from forest, rescued

Ranchi: A unique sight unfolded on Thursday morning in Kashida village, located near Ghatsila town in East Singhbhum district, when a deer strayed into the village after losing its way in the forest. As soon as the villagers spotted the deer, panic ensued. The deer, in a state of distress, was chased by stray dogs, making the situation more chaotic.

In the midst of the commotion, some vigilant villagers displayed bravery and managed to protect the deer from the dogs. They immediately informed the forest department. While the department team arrived at the scene, they lacked the necessary resources to capture the deer. In response, the villagers worked together to catch the deer, tying it with a rope before handing it over to the forest department.

The deer was then transported to Tata Zoo in Jamshedpur for treatment, where it is currently receiving medical care for injuries sustained during the incident.

According to local residents, the deer likely ventured out of the forest in search of water, as the ongoing heatwave has caused the water sources in the forest to dry up. This has forced many wild animals to move towards the villages. Some locals also mentioned that the recent ‘sendra’ campaign in the forests might have scared the wildlife, prompting them to seek safer locations.

The villagers have appealed to the forest department to ensure better preparedness for such situations and to arrange for drinking water in the forests, preventing wild animals from entering the villages and ensuring their safety.
