Ranchi: In a strong move to ensure the safety of schoolchildren, the Transport Department and Traffic Police conducted a special enforcement drive across Ranchi on Tuesday. The अभियान was jointly led by Traffic DSP Pramod Kesari and DTO Akhilesh Kumar, with intensive checks carried out in multiple parts of the city.
Officials said that more than 100 school vans were inspected during the drive. Several vans were found carrying children beyond their permitted capacity, while some school buses were also flagged for overloading and ignoring basic safety norms. Strict fines were imposed on operators violating the rules.
During the inspection, documents and safety measures such as vehicle fitness certificates, permits, driving licenses, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, speed governors, and other child safety requirements were thoroughly checked. Many vehicles were found lacking essential safety provisions, drawing strong criticism from authorities.
Traffic DSP Pramod Kesari stated that there will be zero tolerance when it comes to children’s safety. He emphasized that overloading significantly increases the risk of accidents and assured that strict action will continue.
DTO Akhilesh Kumar added that repeated complaints about overcrowded school vans prompted this special drive. He also confirmed that similar surprise inspections will continue across different areas of the city in the coming days.
Authorities have also urged parents to avoid sending their children in vehicles that do not comply with safety norms. A clear warning has been issued that strict action will be taken against violators to ensure student safety.
