Jamshedpur: A welcome break from the heat is unfolding across Jharkhand as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a spell of cooler weather over the coming days. The state is likely to witness scattered rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, bringing relief from the recent heatwave conditions.
Recent weather data reflects this shift. In Ranchi, the maximum temperature settled at 33.6°C—around 3.5°C below normal—while the minimum dipped to 19.0°C. Jamshedpur saw an even sharper drop, with the daytime temperature at 32.0°C, nearly 7°C below average, along with 19.2 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Daltonganj remained the hottest at 35.0°C, whereas Lohardaga recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 18.5°C.
Rainfall activity has been widespread across the state. Manihari in West Singhbhum received the highest rainfall at 41.2 mm, followed by Seraikela with 37.5 mm and Godda at 34.2 mm. Ranchi recorded 4.4 mm during the same period.
Morning visibility in Jamshedpur dropped to 800 metres due to weather conditions. Automated Weather Stations reported moderate temperatures across districts, including Bokaro at 30.2°C and Gumla at 34.0°C. Light to moderate showers were also recorded in areas like Baharagora, Darisai, and Khunti.
What to Expect:
- May 2: Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) likely in isolated areas, except the northwestern parts.
- May 3: Similar weather conditions expected, excluding western Jharkhand.
- May 4–5: Thunderstorms and gusty winds likely at isolated places across the state.
- May 6: No major weather alerts issued.
The current atmospheric pattern suggests unstable conditions will persist, with intermittent rain, lightning, and strong winds across parts of Jharkhand. Residents are advised to stay alert, avoid open spaces during lightning, and take necessary precautions during storm activity.
