Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has approved a probe by a retired judge of the Jharkhand High Court in the death case of late sub-inspector Rupa Tirkey.
Retired Justice of Jharkhand High Court Binod Kumar Gupta has been handed over the responsibility of the probe. Retired Justice Gupta has also worked as the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand High Courts. A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that the one-member commission has been given a time of six months to complete the probe. The one-member commission will look into all the aspects of the alleged suicide committed by the officer.
The Chief Minister has made a special intervention in the case and has directed to conduct an impartial probe into the incident. By handing over the probe to a renowned person the Chief Minister wants to make his intentions clear before the public. On the other hand police probe in the case bearing number 127/2021 registered at Borio Police Station.
On the other hand, while addressing a press conference in Dumka Santhal Pargana IG Priya Dubey said that in this charge sheet has been filed against the alleged lover and Assistant Sub Inspector Shiv Kumar Kanuajia while the role of some other family members is also suspicious in the incident and they are being also probed. She said that if needed a supplementary charge sheet will be also filed. The IG said that Rupa Tirkey was under mental pressure due to Kanaujia and some other members of the family. Over the viral video of Rupa’s father she said that all possible angles are being probed.
Body of Sub Inspector Rupa Tirkey who was also the officer incharge of women police station of Sahebganj district was found hanging in her government accommodation on May 3. Her family members had alleged murder and had accused her two batchmates and a leader of the JMM of being responsible for it.
In due course of investigation the Sahebganj police arrested her boyfriend and Assistant Sub Inspector Shiv Kumar Kanuajia posted in Chaibasa. Police had claimed that due to constant black mailing by Shiv and demand for money Rupa had committed suicide.
