Chaiti Chhath concludes with offerings to rising Sun

Ranchi: The grand festival of public faith, Chaiti Chhath, concluded with the offering of prayers to the rising Sun. Devotees offered Arghya to Lord Bhaskar at 5:37 AM and prayed for wealth, grains, and good health. After offering the Arghya, the devotees completed their Nirjala fast by breaking it with the ‘Paran’ ceremony.

The final day of Chhath Puja is celebrated on the seventh day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra. According to ancient beliefs, the Sun God’s worship is observed to attain health, prosperity, and offspring.

According to the Skanda Purana, King Priyavrata observed Chhath Vrat to be blessed with offspring. The Pandavas and their wife Draupadi performed the Chhath Puja to regain their lost kingdom. Lord Bhaskar himself had observed the Chhath Vrat to be freed from leprosy. The Skanda Purana also mentions this Vrat in the context of ‘Pratihar Shasthi.’ The significance of Chhath is also mentioned in the Vishvakarma Kirtan.
