Catholic Adivasi term used to mislead tribal society: Marandi

Ranchi: Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi has claimed that some individuals who have converted to Christianity are using the term ‘Catholic Adivasi’ to mislead and deceive the tribal community. He alleged that these individuals, driven by political and financial motives, are falsely identifying as tribals to improperly benefit from reservation policies.

In a social media post, Marandi clarified that the Catholic community has the right to follow their faith freely. However, he stated that any attempt to erase the tribal identity through greed, fear, or conspiracy would not be tolerated. He emphasized that the tribal community would not be swayed by church edicts but will continue to follow its traditional faith, rooted in sacred sites such as Sarna Sthal, Majhi Than, and Jaher Than.

Marandi further announced that a movement would soon begin in Jharkhand to unite the tribal community in order to counter foreign conspiracies and protect their cultural identity and constitutional rights. He also called on the administration to take action in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions.
