Ranchi: The government during the ongoing session of the Jharkhand Assembly on Wednesday said that panchayat elections in the state will be held without OBC reservation. Replying following a question raised by BJP MLA Ramchandra Chandravansi through calling attention motion Parliamentary Affairs Minister Alamgir Aalam said that if the elections are stopped fund allocation will not be received from the center. He said that since the issue of reservation is a sensitive one therefore the government has decided to form a commission over the matter.
The Minister said that the government will give 27 percent reservation to the OBCs and it was studying the models of other states. Attacking the previous BJP government he asked answers from the opposition as to why the reservation percentage was not increased in the previous regime. Joining the debate JMM MLA Dipak Biruwa demanded that since 13 districts of Jharkhand fall in the schedule list therefore the government should implement tribal panchayats.
AJSU supremo and Silli MLA Sudesh Kumar Mahto said reservation for the OBCs is an important issue. He said that if one more extension is given to the present system on in the panchayat bodies a big section of the people will be benefitted and suggested the government not to take away the opportunities from the OBCs of the state.
