New Delhi: The government on Wednesday said that the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the automobile sector has recorded cumulative investments of Rs 35,657 crore and cumulative determined sales of Rs 32,879 crore as of September 30, reflecting strong industry participation and steady progress.
According to official data, the scheme has generated 48,974 jobs so far, while incentives amounting to Rs 2,321.94 crore have been disbursed to eligible companies as of December 31. The PLI Auto Scheme was introduced to strengthen India’s manufacturing ecosystem, particularly in the area of Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) products.
The scheme has a total budgetary outlay of Rs 25,938 crore and covers a five-year performance period from FY 2023–24 to FY 2027–28. FY 2023–24 marked the first performance year under the scheme, during which Rs 322 crore was disbursed to four approved applicants in FY 2024–25.
For the performance year 2024–25, incentives totalling Rs 1,999.94 crore have so far been released to five approved applicants, the Ministry of Heavy Industries said in a statement.
Under the PLI Auto Scheme, incentives have been provided for the production of 10,42,172 electric two-wheelers, 2,38,385 electric three-wheelers, 79,540 electric four-wheelers, and 1,391 electric buses. The scheme incentivises only those products that achieve a minimum Domestic Value Addition (DVA) of 50 per cent.
So far, eight applicants under the Champion OEM category have received DVA certification for 94 product variants, while 10 applicants under the Component Champion category have secured DVA certification for 37 variants.
Meanwhile, the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme was notified on September 29 with a total outlay of Rs 10,900 crore. The Ministry noted that the aggressive targets set for the electric three-wheeler (L5) segment have been achieved ahead of schedule, with sales reaching 2.88 lakh units. As a result, incentivisation under the scheme for the e-3W (L5) segment was closed after December 26, 2025.
Electric vehicle penetration in the e-3W (L5) segment is now estimated at 32 per cent, aligning with the government’s objective of creating a self-sustaining electric mobility ecosystem. As of December 30, a total of 21.24 lakh electric vehicles have been sold under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, the ministry added.
