Ranchi – Six people were killed and seven others injured in two separate road accidents in Jharkhand within a span of 12 hours, police confirmed on Friday.
The first mishap occurred on Friday afternoon near Badkitand turn in the Taratand police station area along the Giridih-Tundi main road. A speeding truck collided with a pickup van, overturning it by the roadside. Three passengers — Nand Kishore (47), Kamal (38), and Jagdish Bhokta (45) — died on the spot, while seven others were seriously injured. Two of the injured were later referred to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College in Dhanbad for advanced treatment.
Police officials, led by SDPO Jeetwahan Oraon, reached the site immediately and, with the help of locals, shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. Most of the passengers were migrant labourers from Bengabad in Giridih, who were working in Hazaribagh and heading home for Durga Puja celebrations.
In another tragic incident, late Thursday night, a Maruti Swift travelling from Kolkata to Jamshedpur was hit from behind by a speeding truck near Jharia turn on NH-18 in Baharagora, East Singhbhum district. The car was completely crushed in the impact, killing all three occupants instantly.
The victims were identified as driver Ganesh Rai (50), Kusumita Patnaik (55) of Jamshedpur, and her daughter Monica Patnaik (28). The family was returning home after a visit to Kolkata. Their bodies were handed over to relatives after post-mortem examinations on Friday afternoon.
