Asian Champions Trophy to be held in Ranchi from October 27 to November 5

Ranchi: Jharkhand Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Hafizul Hassan Ansari along with Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey, Jharkhand Hockey Association President Bholanath Singh and others unveiled the logo for upcoming Women’s Hockey Asia Cup Trophy to be held in Ranchi on Tuesday.

This competition will be named as Jharkhand Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023.

The competition will be held in Ranchi from 27 October to 5 November 2023.

This competition is going to be organized for the first time in India including Jharkhand.

Hockey India and Jharkhand Government have announced the name of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand to host.

This event will be the seventh edition of the tournament.

Ranchi has previously hosted several Hockey India League matches from 2012 to 2015.

This city was home to the based franchise Ranchi Rays.

In recent years, several top domestic level events have taken place at the stadium.

To top it all, the city has a huge fan base for the sport.

Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Thailand and host India are expected to participate in the tournament which is going to be held in Ranchi.

The Indian women’s team had won the title in 2016 and were the runners-up in the next edition in 2018.

Padma Shri Dr Dilip Tirkey, President, Hockey India said, “I would like to heartily thank AHF for giving Hockey India the opportunity to host the Jharkhand Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023.

The event is a testimony to India’s growing stature as a global hub of hockey.

We are confident that this tournament will not only witness the best of Asian women’s hockey but will also provide an excellent platform for our own players to compete against some of the best teams in the world.

Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh said that when we had expressed our interest in hosting the Jharkhand Asian Champions Trophy, Chief Minister Hemant Soren immediately agreed to provide all assistance required to host the event in the state.

He has always been a strong supporter of sports.

It is a great honour for us to host such a mega event.

I believe this is an important step towards hosting more international hockey events in future in Ranchi.

AHF President Dato’ Fumio Ogura said, “We are very excited that Ranchi is hosting the upcoming edition of the Asian Champions Trophy for women.

Hockey India has built a great reputation over the years hosting world class events in India.

It hosted the FIH Men’s World Cup and then won the title at the Hero Asian Champions Trophy (Men) in Chennai.
