Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh mountaineer Kabak Yano has successfully summited Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, the highest peak in South America, continuing her inspiring mission to conquer the tallest mountains on all seven continents. The feat was achieved late last week as part of her ambitious 7-Summit Mountaineering Expedition, officials said.
An official from Lok Bhavan in Itanagar stated that Mount Aconcagua, rising to 22,831 feet above sea level, is the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere and is considered a formidable challenge even for experienced climbers. Yano’s successful ascent marks another major milestone in her journey defined by endurance, courage, and determination.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) congratulated the 27-year-old mountaineer on her latest achievement, praising her indomitable spirit and unwavering focus. He said her journey is not only a personal triumph but also a strong source of inspiration for the youth of the state.
The Governor noted that Yano’s accomplishments clearly demonstrate how discipline, perseverance, and self-belief can help overcome the toughest challenges. Reiterating his commitment to promoting sports and adventure activities among young people, he expressed confidence that her success would motivate many youths in Arunachal Pradesh to pursue sports and adventure disciplines with renewed enthusiasm.
Governor Parnaik had formally flagged off Yano’s 7-Summit Mountaineering Expedition from Lok Bhavan in Itanagar on July 28 last year, in the presence of State Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kento Jini, extending his best wishes for her demanding global mission.
Born on September 5, 1999, Yano is among the proud Everesters of Arunachal Pradesh. She had earlier summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa’s highest peak, on August 4, 2025, and Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe and Russia, on August 16, 2025.
The prestigious 7-Summit Mountaineering Expedition involves scaling the highest peaks on each continent — Mount Everest (Asia), Aconcagua (South America), Denali (North America), Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mount Elbrus (Europe), Vinson Massif (Antarctica), and Puncak Jaya or Mount Kosciuszko (Oceania) — a rare and demanding accomplishment achieved by only a select few mountaineers worldwide.
With this achievement, Kabak Yano has become the fifth woman climber from Arunachal Pradesh and the first woman from the Nyishi community to scale Mount Aconcagua.
