Deoghar: Police have intensified their crackdown on an armed robbery gang operating in the Mohanpur police station area, arresting one accused and recovering a country-made pistol, a live cartridge and a stolen mobile phone. Raids are underway to nab the remaining gang members.
Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar said police received a confidential tip-off on July 23 that a group of armed criminals was stopping vehicles and robbing commuters in the Mohanpur area. The gang was also suspected of targeting pilgrims travelling during the ongoing Shravani Mela.
Based on the information, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to verify the inputs and take immediate action. During the operation, police arrested Vishnu Yadav, a resident of Jhajha village under Chandan police station in Bihar’s Banka district.
A search of the accused led to the recovery of a country-made pistol, one live cartridge and a Vivo mobile phone that had been looted in the Rikhiya police station area.
Police have registered a case against the accused under Rikhiya Police Station Case No. 97/2026 under Section 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials said the identities of the other gang members have been established, and continuous raids are being carried out to arrest them.
The operation was led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Kuldeep Kumar. Mohanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sandeep Krishna, along with Shwet Prakash Dubey, Birendra Oraon, Mukesh Kumar Singh and personnel of the Reserve Guard, were part of the raiding team.
Police said similar enforcement drives will continue throughout the Shravani Mela to ensure the safety of pilgrims and maintain law and order.
