Ambit of Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda increased, Jharkhand govt inks historic MoU with British High Commission

Ranchi: In a historic move the Government of Jharkhand and The Foreign, Commonwealth and  Development Office (FCDO), British High Commission New Delhi will enter in a partnership to award the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship to up to five meritorious scholars belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Class and Minorities community of Jharkhand.

It is to the credit of the efforts made by Chief Minister Hemant Soren that the commitment made at the launch of the first iteration of the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship has been fulfilled within a year. This step along with the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Overseas Scholarship will expand the opportunities for the youth of Jharkhand to attain quality higher education from world-class universities of the United Kingdom.

To bring to light the joint vision of the State Government and The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) British High Commission, New Delhi so as to provide excellent educational opportunities to the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow, a MoU will be signed on August 23, 2022.

Prior to this historic step, the Government of Jharkhand was providing financial assistance to the selected scholars under the aegis of the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Overseas Scholarship which enables them to pursue selected courses in the premier universities of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Building upon this the State Government has decided to widen the scope of this scholarship by collaborating with The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), British High Commission, New Delhi. Under the umbrella of this MoU, a maximum of 5 scholars shall be selected every academic year for the prestigious Chevening Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship. 

Under the aegis of the scholarship, scholars will receive the academic tuition fees including examination and thesis costs, a monthly stipend sufficient to cover the cost of living of an individual student, an allowance package and return airfare of the approved route from the place of residence.

The scholarship will be awarded to pursue a one-year Master’s degree at the selected and esteemed universities of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Applicants need to have two years of work, or equivalent experience to be eligible. The Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship will start in the UK academic year of 2023/24 and will continue in effect for a three-year period that is 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26.

The Chief Minister committed to his aim of expanding the very scope of the scholarship has made sincere efforts for the realisation of this partnership. In September 2021, at the launch of the first Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship itself the Chief Minister had shared his vision for including the scholars belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Minority communities. In less than a year’s time the State is to witness the fruition of the mutual efforts made by the Chief Minister and the British High Commission with the inking of this partnership.

This fully funded scholarship is distinct in its scope and vision with its aim to provide meritorious scholars of the state with the best of educational opportunities available abroad. It is historic in its essence to ensure inclusivity and accessibility in education and has established itself to be one of a kind across the entire nation. The expanded version of the scholarship will now cover a maximum of 25 scholars from the earlier number of 10.

A maximum of 10 talented scholars from the Scheduled Tribes, 05 from the Scheduled Castes, 03 from Minorities and 07 from the Backward Classes will tread on the glorious path to achieve their aspirational pursuits by enrolling themselves in Master’s/ M Phil courses and bring pride to both the state and the nation by attending the most eminent universities of the world.
