After more than 30 years Budha Pahad liberated from Maoists, DGP felicitates jawans

Garhwa/Ranchi: For the first time, Jharkhand Police has completely freed the Budha Pahad which was one the strongest safe zones of CPI Maoists for more than 30 years. For the first time after being freed the Jharkhand Police
had landed a Mi helicopter on the top of the mountain on Friday.

On Sunday, DGP Neeraj Sinha also reached the mountain. Jharkhand Police and CRPF jawans who showed indomitable courage were honoured by him. During this, ADG Operations Sanjay Latkar, IG Operations AV Homkar and many other police officers were present. Officials including the DGP, who reached Budha Pahard inspected the camp built on the hills. Apart from this the officers encouraged the soldiers and rewarded them.

The officials listened to the problems of the villagers and assured them that they are now free from the fear of Maoists and assured that the security forces will give full protection to them. The DGP said that the camp of security forces is being set up here so that the Maoists are not able to make their base here again.

The construction work of many basic facilities including hospitals, school is being started in this area. In the 1990s the mountain was occupied by the Maoists and the hills often remained the safe haven for the Maoists with many of their Central Committee leaders camping in the area.

The police conducted several campaigns in between but the mountain was never completely captured. During the campaign in the month of June 2018, when the police team tried to climb the old mountain the Maoists exploded the IEDs inflicting damage to the jawans.
