After Hemant, Shibu Soren’s problems increased, Judgment on disproportionate assets reserved, hearing held in double bench of Delhi High Court

Ranchi:  JMM supremo Shibu Soren’s troubles may increase in the disproportionate assets case. On Tuesday, the hearing of this case took place in the division bench of Justice Rekha Palli and Justice Rajneesh Bhatnagar of Delhi High Court. The court has reserved the decision after hearing both sides. After this hearing held in Delhi High Court, it is feared that the troubles of the Soren family may increase further.

Shibu Soren, who is facing the Lokpal investigation, had challenged the single bench order by filing the latest patent appeal (LPA) in the Delhi High Court, seeking to stay the Lokpal investigation and quash the single bench order of the High Court. The hearing was held on Tuesday in the bench of Justice Rekha Palli and Justice Rajneesh Bhatnagar.

During the hearing, advocate Pragya Singh Baghel argued and presented his side on behalf of Shibu Soren. The decision has been reserved after the completion of the hearing. A complaint of amassing disproportionate assets was filed in the Lokpal in the name of JMM supremo and Rajya Sabha MP Shibu Soren and his relatives. This complaint was filed on 5 August 2020. In the complaint made to the Lokpal, it was told that Shibu Soren and his relative have misused the government treasury of Jharkhand.

According to the Lokpal, many properties have been created from the money earned through corruption. These properties also include many benami residential and commercial properties. Hearing the complaint of disproportionate assets case, the Full Bench of Lokpal on 15 September 2020 ordered the CBI to investigate.

CBI was asked to register a PE (Preliminary Inquiry) in the case under Section 20 (1) (A) of the Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, 2013 and submit the report within 6 months. After investigation, the CBI had submitted a report to the Lokpal on the complete details of the assets of the Soren family, their income tax returns, in March 2021 and subsequently on July 1, 2021.

On the basis of this, the Lokpal had sent a notice to Shibu Soren and his family members seeking favour. Subsequently, in the light of the response received from the Soren family members, the CBI filed the final PE report with the Lokpal on 29 June 2022.
