Ranchi: Women waiting for the combined April and May instalment under the Maiyan Samman Yojana may have to wait a little longer, as the payment process now appears to be taking more time than expected.
Until a few days ago, discussions were rife that the amount for both instalments would start reaching beneficiaries’ bank accounts from May 15. There were even reports claiming that eligible women could receive up to Rs 5,000 together for April and May. However, despite the deadline passing, payments have not yet started in any district of the state.
Officials said the administrative process linked to the scheme is still underway. According to departmental information, thousands of crores of rupees have already been transferred to beneficiaries under the scheme so far. Before releasing the remaining payments, the government is now updating and verifying the beneficiary list thoroughly.
As part of this exercise, physical verification of beneficiaries was conducted at the panchayat and ward levels from May 11 to May 18. Officials visited villages and urban localities to cross-check beneficiary details and remove any ineligible or incorrect names from the list.
At present, data received from all districts is being compiled and scrutinised between May 19 and May 24. After this process, lists of deceased, ineligible and absent beneficiaries will be prepared and displayed publicly at panchayat buildings and circle offices. Following the disposal of objections, the final report will be sent to the district level.
Government sources indicate that this time the payment process may be carried out differently compared to previous phases.
For now, lakhs of women associated with the scheme are anxiously waiting to know when the money will finally be credited to their accounts after completion of the verification process.
