Jharkhand Budget Unveils 100 New CM Schools of Excellence, Proposes Ambedkar University

Ranchi- The Jharkhand government on Tuesday announced a wide range of initiatives spanning education, healthcare, tourism, infrastructure and women’s empowerment in the 2026–27 Budget presented in the Assembly.

Presenting the Budget, Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore said the state will set up 100 new Chief Minister Schools of Excellence, with CBSE-based education to be introduced from the 2027–28 academic session. He added that 80 such schools are already functioning across Jharkhand. A model school for the children of martyrs has also been proposed.

In higher education, the government announced plans to establish Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Chatra district. Additionally, five new residential schools for girls will be opened — two in Dhanbad and one each in Palamu, Latehar and Garhwa.

The Budget also focuses strongly on women’s empowerment. Under the newly introduced “Mahila Kisan Khushali Yojana”, Rs 25 crore has been allocated to support women farmers through modern farming techniques and improved market access. Overall, a Gender Budget of Rs 34,211.27 crore covering 232 schemes across 17 departments has been proposed.
