Rs 1.58 Lakh Crore Jharkhand Budget Laid, State Cites Central Fund Shortfall

Ranchi- Presenting the Jharkhand Budget for 2026–27, Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore unveiled a Rs 1.58 lakh crore plan focused on social welfare, infrastructure expansion and long-term growth, calling it the “Abua Dishom Budget.”

The Budget size has risen by around nine per cent from the previous year, signalling increased spending on women-centric schemes, health services, agriculture, rural development and education. However, the minister criticised the Centre for providing nearly Rs 16,000 crore less than expected in tax transfers and grants, which he said constrained the state’s finances.

Even so, Jharkhand’s own revenue is projected to rise sharply to Rs 66,700 crore in 2026–27. The fiscal deficit has been kept at 2.18 per cent of GSDP, while capital spending has been boosted to strengthen roads, irrigation, power supply and drinking water facilities.

Major allocations include over Rs 22,000 crore for women and child welfare, nearly Rs 8,000 crore for health — including a special cancer care scheme — and more than Rs 12,000 crore for rural development, underscoring the government’s focus on inclusive growth despite financial headwinds.
