Ranchi: There is a huge shortage of University Professors in all the universities of the state including Ranchi University, Dr. Shyama Prasad University. At present, about 40 % of the posts of university professors are vacant. This is directly affecting academic activity. It is meaningless to talk about quality education without the appointment of permanent professors.
University Grant Commission (UGC) has also asked all the universities across the country to make appointments to vacant posts as per the rules. In this regard, the University Service Commission (UGC) has also given information by sending letters to universities across the country. Due to the shortage of teachers in universities, not only studies get affected but also affects net grading. In terms of vacant posts, the condition of the employees is even worse than the Professors, who are considered the lifeline of the university.
Presently, 60 % of the posts of employees are vacant. There has been no permanent appointment of employees for three decades. More than 500 JRF pass candidates are not getting research guides in state universities. Only permanent Professors can be made Research Director. It is not easy to do a PhD even after passing NET.
Due to the non-availability of permanent appointments in state universities, the ad hoc system is being encouraged. Contract Professors are being appointed in place of retired teachers. The interest of the university administration is also high in this. They do not have a problem in appointing contract-based teachers at the university level as per the requirement. There are total of 62 constituent colleges under the state universities. Out of this, the post of 90 % posts of principals is currently vacant.
The colleges are being run on the basis of the in-charge principal under improvised arrangements. There are 18 constituent colleges under Ranchi University. But there are only three permanent principals. University Professors and employees are retiring every month in state universities. But new appointments are not being made in their place.
In the last 23 years after the formation of the state, only two vacancies have come for the appointment of university teachers. The vacancy came for the appointment of teachers in the year 2008 and in the year 2018. Since then the qualified candidates are waiting for the appointment.
