156 Security Personnel at CIP Kanke Launch Indefinite Agitation Over Sudden Termination

Ranchi: An indefinite agitation has begun at the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Kanke, after 156 security guards were allegedly dismissed from service without notice or stated reasons. The affected personnel, who have been associated with the institute for years, have been holding a continuous sit-in near CIP Chowk inside the campus since February 3, under the banner of the CIP Security Guards Rights Struggle Committee.

According to the protesting guards, they had rendered nearly 20 years of service at the institute and had maintained an unblemished record throughout their tenure. However, on January 27, 2026, they were informed via the SIS security agency that their services were no longer required, resulting in the termination of all 156 guards at once.

Terming the move unfair and arbitrary, the agitators have demanded their immediate reinstatement and strict action against the officials responsible. They have also cautioned that the protest will be expanded if their demands remain unaddressed.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Central Institute of Psychiatry stated that the institute does not have the authority to hire or dismiss security personnel, as they were deployed through a private security agency.

The agitation continues, with the administration keeping a close watch on the situation inside the institute campus.
