13,000 hectares of land in 24 panchayats will be irrigated

Ranchi: The state government had approved Rs 484.35 crore for Sikatiya Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme for the purpose of providing irrigation facilities through the underground pipelines in the parts of Sarath, Kars, Vidyasagar and Jamtara blocks of Deoghar and Jamtara districts.

A decision in this regard was taken in the cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren on March 30.

Under this scheme, cycle wise irrigation facility will be made available in the irrigated area through the pipeline from a pump motor from Ajay Barrage Upstream located near Sikatiya village.

This scheme will be completed in three years, as a result of which 13,164 hectares of 24 panchayats of the respective blocks will get the facility of kharif irrigation, while due to excessive rainfall during any period, water will be diverted in the event of limited water requirement in the fields.

Nearby water bodies can be filled by diverting the water due to which the shortage of water can be addressed by providing the same through ponds to the villagers for cattle and other works.
