Providing clean drinking water to people is priority for the state govt: Raghubar

  • Ranchi, Apr 12: Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das Wednesday said that
    providing clean drinking water to the people of the state was a
    priority for the government of the state and to achieve this goal
    funds would not be a constraint.
  • Reviewing the functioning of the Drinking Water and the Sanitation
    Department here he asked the officials to ensure that water is
    provided via pipeline to the rural areas keeping in mind the ever
    rising summer heat. He said that clean water would not only to fight
    against diseases would also help to tackle malnutrition.
  • The Chief Minister said that on April 20 he would be laying foundation
    schemes for drinking water supply schemes for the Santhal Pargana
    region and asked the officials to commence work on these projects by
    May 2017.
  • He also asked to prepare project for Kolhan area under
    Mukyamantri Rural Water Supply Scheme and said that simultaneous
    foundation would be laid for water supply schemes worth Rs 1,000 cr.
    Mr Das said that despite 70 years of Independence, people of Santhal
    Pargana and Kolhan were starving for water and they should be provided
    immediate clean drinking water. He asked the officials to conduct a
    survey of all the blocks of the Santhal Pargana region for
    establishing water supply projects and said that if needed water from
    the rivers be used. Mr Das stressed on working over small drinking
    water supply schemes.
  • The Chief Minister directed to complete the work of pipe laying in
    Ranchi and Jamshedpur by December and ordered for construction of 60
    major water storage tanks in Ranchi. He asked to use new technology to
    lay the pipelines in Ranchi. He also asked to black list such
    contractors who are negligent in their works.
