Jamshedpur: Fourteen days after his abduction, young entrepreneur Kairav Gandhi, son of noted Jamshedpur businessman Devang Gandhi, has been recovered safely, officials said on Tuesday.
He reached his home in Jamshedpur early Tuesday morning at around 4.30 a.m. Police sources said he was rescued from an area located between Hazaribagh in Jharkhand and Gaya in Bihar.
Confirming the development, Jamshedpur SSP Piyush Pandey said the police focused primarily on ensuring the victim’s safety, which has now been achieved. He added that continuous raids and technical surveillance are being carried out to trace and arrest the kidnappers.
Kairav Gandhi was abducted on January 13 after leaving his CH-area residence in a Creta car. He had told his family that he would visit SBI Bank in Bistupur, then head to his office in Adityapur, and return home for lunch. When he failed to come back and his phone was switched off, the family grew alarmed.
Soon, the family received a ransom call from a foreign number demanding Rs 5 crore, later reportedly raised to Rs 10 crore. Considering the gravity of the case, Jharkhand Police constituted seven SITs that conducted raids across multiple states, including Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha.
Jharkhand DGP Tadasha Mishra personally reviewed the investigation during his visit to Jamshedpur earlier this week. While the city has welcomed Kairav Gandhi’s safe return, authorities have yet to clarify whether the rescue was purely the result of police operations or negotiations by the family. Further details are expected to be shared soon.
