‘World No Tobacco Day or Anti Tobacco Day Observed’

Ranchi: According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) ‘World No Tobacco Day or Anti Tobacco Day’ was Observed on May 31 globally.

A signature Campaign was launched countrywide by Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) with the determination to quit tobacco and to create awareness among people related to heart-related disease and respiratory and breathing problems on Wednesday.

Young generations including Children, College going girls and boys are being part of awareness campaigns on World No Tobacco Day in Lucknow, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Bhuvneshwar, Puri, and New Delhi.

According to Doctor DP Yadav, “Every year 80 Lakh People die due to consuming Tobacco.”

Dr DP Yadav said “Tobacco causes a variety of health issues including Cancer, Cardiovascular disease, dental decay, tooth discoloration and more and it is a curse for human society.”

Using Tobacco in the form of smoking causes severe breathing problems, respiratory problems and mental illness, Dr Yadav added.

“Both the Union Government and State Government make laws on Anti Tobacco Campaign but people have least knowledge about side effects and I’ll effects of Tobacco”, said a volunteer of an Awareness Campaign.

This year’s World Health Organisation (WHO) theme for ‘World No Tobacco Day or Anti Tobacco Day’ is “We need Food not Tobacco” with the motto to grow food crops not narcotics in the agricultural field.

“Consuming Tobacco is an evil, people lose control after consuming it that’s why we have launched an awareness campaign”, said Dr. Mithilesh Singh.

“Secondhand smoke and Chain Smokers among youngsters and children come under the category by using Cigarettes, Pipes, cigars, Marijuana, Chillam, Ganja and other harmful chemicals and narcotics become Carcinogenic, ” said Neonatologist Dr. Abhishek Chopra.

“Smoking and secondhand smoke can cause harm at any stage of life – before birth, infancy, childhood and even adulthood, People often lose mental control and their behaviour reflects the side effects of consuming Tobacco”, Dr. Chopra added.

“Smoking by both Wife or Husband causes several side effects including low birth weight of an infant, Placental Problem, Pre term pregnancy or birth complications, risk of sudden infant death syndrome, ear infections, respiratory problem, Cancer, Smoking addiction, headache, sore throat and stuffy nose,” Neonatologist Dr. Chopra said.
