World Environment Week Started at DSPMU, Ranchi

Ranchi: World Environment Week 2023 started on June 1 and will continue till World Environment Day falls on June 5 at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) Ranchi.

“To create awareness among students this programme is organised”, said Professor Shama Sonali of DSPMU.

The theme of World Environment Week is “Mass Mobilisation on Mission LiFE (Life Style for Environment).

The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp by the Indian Forest Service (IFS) and Chief Conservator of Forest Dr. Diksha Prasad along with Vice Chancellor of DSPMU Dr. Tapan Kumar Sandilya and Former Vice Chancellor of Veer Kunwar Singh University Dr. S.P. Singh and distinguished guests.

IFS and Chief Conservator of Forests Dr. Diksha Prasad said that “Mobilisation should be held on Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), she conveyed her message to students that Issues concerning Climate Change and how we can conserve and save energy.”

Dr. Prasad added that “We should search for alternate sources of energy and should promote renewable energy.”

Former VC of Veer Kunwar Singh University Dr. Singh said while addressing students to promote Sustainable Development passes by Brundtland Commission of Netherlands in the early of 1980’s that “To meet the needs of present generation without compromising the needs of future generation.”

Dr. Singh added “loss of biodiversity due to over population and its harmful impact on our planet earth.”

VC of DSPMU Dr. Tapan Kumar Sandilya said that “India has become the most population developed country on the world and we have limited resources, how to face environmental challenges is a matter of concern.”

Dr. Sandilya added that at present World has three challenges and they are “Population, Poverty and Pollution.”

At the end of first day programme VC of DSPMU Dr. Tapan Kumar Sandilya administered LiFE pledge with an effort to reduce pollution and promote environmental friendly events to Students.

World Environment Week organising Committee consists Dr. Geetanjali Singh, Dr. Shama Sonali, Dr. Ganesh Chandra and Dr. Manisha Shahdeo.

The Programme Schedule are as follows- 

On the Second day of World Environment Week Photography and Short Video Making Competition will be organised from 9 AM to 10 AM.

After that, an Essay Writing Competition on Topics – ‘Climate Change : The Most Important Issue,’ ‘Climate Change and Global Pollution, ‘Dynamics of Climate Change : From Kyoto Protocol to Sharm el – Sheikh Conference’ will be held.

On the third day Debate Competition on the topic ‘The Poor Nations are more responsible for Environmental Damages’ will be discussed.

Followed by Poster Making Competition will be organised to create awareness among students.

On the fourth day Nukkad Natak – Drama and Role Play event will be held at University Campus.

On the fifth day Bi-Cycle Rally and Pledge will be organised.

And on the last Day Cleanliness drive – Plastic Free Zone will be declared.
