Ranchi: A notorious woman human trafficker who was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head surrendered on Monday before a special NIA Court.
The woman Sunita Devi is the wife of notorious human trafficker Panna Lal Mahto. After surrendering the court sent her to 14 days of judicial custody. Sunita Devi had been declared wanted by the NIA and the agency had declared an award of Rs 1 lakh on her head.
It was for the first time in the state that on a human trafficker an award of Rs 1 lakh was declared. Sunita Devi was earlier arrested from Khunti but had later come out from jail on bail.
A case was registered in the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) police station of Khunti on July 19, 2019, which was taken over by the NIA, and FIR in the case was registered on March 4, 2020 by the agency. The National Investigating Agency during its probe found out that Panna Lal and his wife Sunita Devi had in the name of placement agencies in Delhi were involved in human trafficking.
These human traffickers use to lure minor children from far-flung areas of Jharkhand under the pretext of getting jobs in Delhi but later they were sold in Delhi and NCR Region where the children were subjected to mental and sexual exploitation.
