When Katrina Kaif Said No One Else Is Responsible for Your Happiness

Mumbai-Actress Katrina Kaif once shared a personal lesson she learnt from her relationships, saying that happiness and self-worth should not depend on the attention or affection received from a partner.

During an appearance on filmmaker Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee With Karan Season 6, the Tiger Zinda Hai actress spoke about the importance of being comfortable with oneself and building relationships based on mutual respect rather than emotional dependence.

Recalling a conversation with friends, Katrina said she did not believe that every woman needed a man to feel fulfilled. She also reflected on how a person’s self-esteem can fluctuate depending on the state of their romantic relationship.

“I’m becoming comfortable with who I am, which I don’t think I was for a large part of my life because you somehow judge yourself based on how much love or attention you get from your partner,” she said.

Katrina explained that when a relationship is going well, a person may feel good about themselves, but difficulties in the relationship can also affect their confidence and self-image.

Describing her biggest lesson from past relationships, she said, “Nobody else is responsible for your happiness.”

The actress added that placing the responsibility for one’s happiness on a partner can put unnecessary pressure on the relationship. According to her, neither person can be expected to fulfil that responsibility indefinitely, and disappointment can eventually affect the bond.

For Katrina, a healthy relationship is one in which two people choose to be together without becoming emotionally dependent on each other.

“The most beautiful kind of love is when neither of you need each other. There’s no great dependence on the other person, there’s admiration, respect, companionship, and there’s a space of ease between you,” she said.

The actress’s remarks highlighted the importance of maintaining individual identity and self-esteem while sharing a life with a partner.

Katrina is married to actor Vicky Kaushal. The couple welcomed their son, Vihaan, in November 2025.
