Web of wires on streets raises serious safety concern

Ranchi: A tangled mess of overhead wires hanging from electric poles across several key roads in Ranchi is becoming a serious safety hazard for residents and commuters. In areas like Kadru, Main Road, Mahatma Gandhi Main Road, and Club Road, electric poles are covered in such dense wiring that many compare it to a spider’s web.

Locals point out that the poles carry fewer power lines and more wires belonging to private Wi-Fi and internet service providers. When a wire malfunctions, companies often install new ones without removing the old, defunct cables. Over time, this neglect has created a growing and dangerous tangle of wires, draped across poles and even drooping dangerously close to streets and sidewalks.

Of even greater concern is the potential for electrocution. Residents report that during short circuits, electric current can sometimes spread to these communication wires. Since many homes are directly connected to these networks, there is a risk of current entering internet setups, which could pose a threat to household safety.

Pedestrians and motorists alike are at constant risk, as some wires hang low enough to obstruct movement or even cause accidents. Citizens warn that ignoring this issue could lead to serious, even fatal, incidents.

As the mess grows and safety fears mount, residents are urging authorities to step in and regulate the unchecked spread of internet cables and enforce removal of redundant wires. Without timely action, Ranchi’s roads may soon become even more perilous.
