Vegetable vendors stage a protest against anti-encroachment drive by RMC in Lalpur

Ranchi: Hundreds of Vegetable Vendors staged a protest against Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) for an anti-encroachment drive at Lalpur Vegetable Market in Ranchi on Wednesday. They gathered and organised a protest march near the Lalpur area of Ranchi.

A Vegetable Vendor said that we bring vegetables from far away and sell them here, we work for the betterment of the public.

“We will not move until the shed is made available to us”, a vendor added.

Vendors demanded Sheds, Drinking Water facilities along with Toilet facilities from RMC.

If our demand is not fulfilled then we will continue our protest, a vendor said.

According to RMC Officials all Vegetable and Meat Vendors will be shifted to the Lalpur Vegetable Market constructed at the cost of Rupees 5.1 Crore.

To reduce Traffic Jams almost 351 hawkers are shortlisted and got permits from RMC and will be placed in the market with permanent settlement from Lalpur to Kokar area of Ranchi, RMC Official added.

250 shops are allocated for Vegetable and Fruit vendors and 104 shops were allocated for Meat and Fish Vendors.

The RMC has declared Sarjana Chowk to Karbala Chowk as vending Free Zones to curb traffic snarls on the road.
