V-P Radhakrishnan to Address AIIMS Deoghar Convocation on Saturday

Deoghar- Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan will visit Deoghar in Jharkhand on Saturday to address the second convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), an official said on Friday.

During his visit, the Vice-President will also attend the Sainya Sampark Mela at BBMT Hospital in Deoghar, according to an official statement.

The visit comes after Radhakrishnan addressed the second convocation of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University in New Delhi earlier this week. At the event, he led attendees in taking the “No to Drugs” pledge and presented gold medals to meritorious graduates.

Highlighting the university’s transformation from a Sanskrit Vidyapeetha into a Central University, the Vice-President called for it to emerge as a leading international centre of excellence in Sanskrit studies, in line with the vision of its founder, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Paying tribute to Shastri, Radhakrishnan said his call of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” represented India’s commitment to safeguarding its borders and ensuring food security.

He also praised the university for securing the highest NAAC accreditation grade of A++ and conducting research across diverse fields of the Indian Knowledge Tradition.

Describing Sanskrit as the “golden string” connecting India’s many languages, the Vice-President stressed the importance of preserving the country’s linguistic and civilisational heritage.

He highlighted the university’s initiatives to promote Sanskrit, including the use of Subhashitas across the campus, its 44-year tradition of publishing the Vidyapeeth Panchang, and teaching classical disciplines such as Prakrit and Vastu Shastra.

Radhakrishnan also referred to the National Education Policy, 2020, and the Ashtadashi scheme, emphasising the need to preserve rare Sanskrit texts and make them accessible to future generations. He urged teachers and students to take up the discovery, preservation, critical editing and publication of unpublished Sanskrit manuscripts.
