Tribals form human chain for Sarna religious code, give memorandum to Guv, meet CM

Ranchi: Demanding a separate Sarna religious code members of the tribal outfits formed a human chain and also held a public meeting in which the leaders said that they would not give a vote unless they get the separate code.

The tribal leaders also said that in the Winter session they would gherao the session and in March Parliament march would be held. On February 28 a   Sarna Dharam Sansad would be held at the Morhabadi grounds.

A delegation of tribal leaders also met Governor Draupadi Murmu and handed a memorandum. In other districts and blocks of the state the members of the tribal community too hit the roads and handed over memorandums to the DCs and BDOs concerned addressed to the PM, Governor and Chief Minister. Under the banner of different tribal outfits, March was also taken out from different areas of the capital.

Sarna Dharam Guru Bandhan Tigga said that some people were trying to mislead the members of the community. He said that as per the constitutional provisions the tribals have been given the status of ST. He said that since tribals worship nature and offer their prayers at Sarna Sthal, therefore, they are demanding Sarna religious code.

Former minister Geetashri Oraon said that the issue of religious code was related to the existence of 12 crore tribals. She said that tribals are neither Hindu nor Christians therefore they should be given their separate identity.

Later a delegation of tribal leaders met Chief Minister Hemant Soren at the project building. The Chief Minister was informed about the programme held on Tuesday and was asked to pass the proposal as soon as possible.  The delegation was assured that the government will pass a resolution and soon send it to centre.
