Ranchi: Members of various tribal organizations and outfits met Chief Minister Hemant Soren and raised their objections to the flaws in reservation roasters for municipal elections, particularly in the scheduled areas of the state.
Under the leadership of Kendriya Sarna Samiti President Ajay Tirkey, Raji Padha Sarna Prayer Meeting India, Tribal Jan Parishad, All India Tribal Development Council, Tribal Army, Tribal Lohra Samaj, Jan Adivasi Central Council, Jharkhand Regional Padha.
A joint delegation of Samiti, Kanke Road Sarna Samiti, Rashtriya Adivasi Munda Parishad, HEC Displaced Front and 22 Padha Chete Sangha met and handed over the memorandum. They apprised the Chief Minister that there are many errors in reserving a single post of Mayor/Chairman of the Municipal Corporation/ Municipal Council/Nagar Panchayat by the State Election Commission for the upcoming municipal elections.
In many municipal bodies of Scheduled districts including Ranchi, the post of Mayor/Chairman, already reserved for Scheduled Tribes, has been declared as Scheduled Caste or General. It is also not in consonance with the provisions of the Constitution. It is also against the sentiments of the tribal people.
The government should take appropriate and legal steps in the matter of single post reservation of municipal bodies of scheduled districts. Vinay Kumar Choubey, Secretary to Chief Minister was present on this occasion.
