Ranchi: Dr. Bharti Kashyap, a renowned ophthalmologist, was honoured with the prestigious IMA National President’s Best Social Activity Appreciation Award at the grand ceremony of the Netcon 2024 annual conference, held on Friday at the Centenary Convention Centre, Engineering Staff College of India, Gachibowli, Hyderabad. Dr. Kashyap received the award for her outstanding and continuous contributions to social service. Dr. B.P. Kashyap was also honoured with the M.G. Garg Award during the event.

Since 2014, Dr. Bharti Kashyap has been running the Mega Women’s Health and Safety Campaign in various regions of Jharkhand, including Palamu, North Chotanagpur, South Chotanagpur, Kolhan, and Santhal Pargana, with the primary objective of eradicating cervical cancer. In 2024, a successful Mega Health Safety Campaign focusing on women’s health and vision safety was organized in Guwa, Golekera, and Tonto in the Kolhan region. Between April 2021 and October 2024, 4,44,301 women in the reproductive age group were screened for cervical cancer in Jharkhand. Dr. Kashyap’s efforts have brought about significant social changes, as women in remote rural areas are increasingly aware of reproductive health and hygiene, and are educating others about life-threatening diseases like cervical cancer.

Dr. Kashyap has been instrumental in creating a vast network of trained human resources to ensure local treatment by local doctors. In the Mega Women’s Health and Safety Campaign camps, gynaecologists and government doctors are trained in digital video colposcope-guided cryo-treatment so that local people can receive continuous treatment at government hospitals.

Dr. Kashyap has been running the Drishti Suraksha campaign for over 33 years, benefiting over 20 lakh school students across Jharkhand. She has treated thousands of people through her eye camps, including indigenous tribes, human trafficking victims, newspaper vendors, diabetic patients, elderly people in nursing homes, slum dwellers, spastic children, athletes, and truck drivers.

This year alone, 116 corneal transplants were successfully performed at Kashyap Memorial Eye Bank. To date, nearly 1,000 eye transplants have been conducted. The goal for the entire state of Jharkhand is to complete 150 corneal transplants within a year.

Dr. Bharti Kashyap’s ongoing efforts in the fields of women’s health, vision safety, and social service have made a profound impact in Jharkhand and beyond, bringing about positive change and raising awareness in marginalized communities.
