Kujju (Ramgarh): Three workers sustained burn injuries in a furnace explosion at Shriram Power and Steel Plant in the Kujju police outpost area of Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district on Saturday evening. One of the injured workers, Rahul Kumar, is reported to be in critical condition.
The explosion triggered panic on the plant premises. The management rushed all three injured workers to a local nursing home for treatment.
According to information available, the incident occurred while sponge iron melting operations were underway at the plant. A powerful explosion took place in the lower section of the furnace during the melting process. The blast was loud enough to alarm workers engaged in nearby operations, and three employees sustained burn injuries.
The injured workers have been identified as Bittu Kumar, 18, a fitter and son of Gunjan Sao, who hails from Adapar in Motihari, Bihar; Jaynandan Yadav, 24, a crane operator from Sarlahi, Nepal; and Rahul Kumar, 31, a melter from Argadda, Ramgarh. Rahul Kumar is the son of the late Suresh Singh.
Furnace blasts have occurred at the plant in the past as well. On September 22, 2025, an incident at the facility claimed the lives of two workers. Another furnace blast on August 9 reportedly killed three employees.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over worker safety at the plant, where previous accidents have resulted in fatalities. The three injured workers are receiving medical treatment, with Rahul Kumar’s condition reported to be serious.
