Daltonganj: Thirteen people have been arrested in connection with the violence which took place in Panki following a dispute over the removal of the welcome gate which was put up for the Shiv Baarat procession to be taken out on the occasion of Mahashivratri on February 18.
Apart from that police have registered a FIR against 100 people and another 1000 unidentified people. On the basis of video footage and photographs, police were conducting raids to nab other culprits. On the other hand, the district administration has stopped internet service till February 19.
Meanwhile, under the leadership of Palamu Zonal IG Rajkumar Lakra a flag march was taken out in Panki in which DC A Dode and SP Chandan Sinha participated. The march travelled through the main roads of the city during which loudspeaker announcements were made by the people to maintain calm.
Prior to the flag march, a joint press conference was addressed at Panki Police Station by DC A Dode and SP Chandan Sinha in which the officials said that the internet services in Panki will remain suspended till 10 AM on February 19. He has urged all the people to maintain calm and said that the rioters will not be spared at any cost.
The SP said that police are keeping a close watch on social media and any objectionable post on social media will be dealt with severe action. Not only Palamu police were keeping an eye on social media outside the district also. In Panki apart from the main road patrolling has also been intensified in the rural areas.
