Technical session on JHAR-CRISP held, officials and civil society in attendance

Ranchi: Representatives of Rural Development, Forest and Water Air Department and Civil Society Organization participated in a technical workshop on Wednesday to discuss the implementation of the Jharkhand Climate Information System and Planning Machinery (JHAR-CRISP) in Jharkhand.

This device has been developed with the joint effort of the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and various technical institutes which also includes early information system in case of drought. This device shows the changes in the groundwater condition, changes in water flow, rainfall pattern etc and the climate conditions in the future to the rural community, which helps in making long-term plans for water conservation. 

Jharkhand is one of the few special states where this yantra is being promoted. Its implementation will help the rural community to be prepared and combat climate change. Nagendra Nath Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, Dr Rajiv Arun Ekka, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Manish Ranjan, Secretary, Department of Rural Development, Jharkhand participated in the inaugural session of the workshop. 

In his special address, NN Sinha told the importance of JHAR-CRISP device in Jharkhand. He said that this will lead to sustainable development. Rajiv Arun Ekka said that this will ensure community participation in planning, which will give more strength to Mnrega program. Manish Ranjan said that through this changes can be seen from planning to implementation and results.

The lead researcher, IIED UK, emphasized the characteristics of JHARCRISP that it can better deal with drought conditions. Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, Secretary, Agriculture Department, Government of Jharkhand described the JHAR-CRISP device as useful for the Agriculture Department as well.

At the end of the program, Rajeshwari B Commissioner Mnrega said that to understand the usefulness of this device there is a need to understand the various development dimensions of Jharkhand in depth so that the planning can become comprehensive. JHAR-CRISP is being implemented in the state by FIA Foundation. 

The Regional Program Officer of the Foundation, Johnson Topno said that to take this device forward, while emphasis will be laid on making PMU at the state level, on the other hand, this device will be taken to the rural people, so that they can use it. able to use properly.
