Teacher found dead in Dumka hotel room; police question woman companion

Dumka — A madrasa teacher was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a hotel room in Dumka on Thursday, triggering tension in the area, police officials said.

The deceased, Mohammad Sadiq Hussain Ansari, hailed from Sakrikitta Rampur in Godda district and worked as a teacher at a madrasa. According to police, he had checked into a hotel near Dudhani Tower Chowk along with a woman. The matter surfaced when hotel staff found him unconscious in the room and alerted authorities. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The body has been sent to Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

Police said the woman accompanying him has been detained for questioning. Preliminary inquiry indicates the two were in a personal relationship. In her statement, she told investigators that Ansari’s health worsened after they returned to the room following a meal.

She claimed he complained of discomfort, began writhing, and later became unresponsive. Believing he had fallen asleep, she did not initially alert anyone, but informed hotel staff after noticing he remained motionless for a long time.

Officials said they are probing all possible angles, including natural causes and foul play. CCTV footage from the hotel is being examined, and the deceased’s family has been informed. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report, police added.
