Ranchi — A Block Supply Officer in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 50,000.
The arrest took place in Barharwa during a trap operation conducted by the Dumka ACB team. The officer, identified as Niranjan Kumar, was caught red-handed while accepting money from a PDS dealer.
According to officials, he had demanded the bribe to ensure smooth functioning of ration supply and to facilitate official processes. The dealer later approached the ACB, which then set up a trap and nabbed the officer during the transaction.
The arrest is part of a wider anti-corruption crackdown in the state, with seven such cases reported so far this month.
In earlier actions, a railway junior engineer was arrested in Bokaro for bribery, while two land acquisition office staff in Deoghar were caught demanding commission. Separate cases in Koderma and Gumla also saw arrests of officials accepting bribes.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to probe the accused’s financial records and possible links to broader corruption networks.
The ACB has urged people to come forward and report corruption instead of giving in to bribery demands.
