Chennai – Actress and singer Shruti Haasan has shared her excitement about working with two iconic figures of Indian cinema — Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna — in the upcoming action entertainer Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. She described the experience as deeply inspiring and enriching.
Reflecting on her time on set, Shruti said that instead of feeling pressured by the presence of such legendary actors, she found the atmosphere to be energizing and positive.
“It was really inspiring and amazing. Being surrounded by so many seasoned actors at the start was a great learning experience. I still enjoy feeling a bit nervous about what I’ll learn next and how my experiences will shape me. Overall, interacting with such great legends was truly remarkable,” she said.
Shruti highlighted that the environment on set wasn’t intimidating but rather uplifting. Observing Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna’s humility and passion for their craft reinforced her belief in constantly growing as an artist.
Produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie has already made waves for becoming the highest overseas pre-sale for a Tamil film. According to industry buzz, the film is expected to release in over 100 countries when it hits theaters on August 14.
International distributor Hamsini Entertainment is backing Coolie’s global release. Sources claim it will be their most ambitious rollout yet, making it one of the largest international releases for an Indian film.
Besides Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, and Shruti Haasan, the film also features top Indian cinema names like Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, and Soubin Shahir.
The music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, marking his fourth collaboration with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Girish Gangadharan is the cinematographer, and editing is handled by Philomin Raj.
The film is generating additional buzz as it brings Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth together on screen after nearly 38 years. They last appeared together in the 1986 blockbuster Mr. Bharath, in which Sathyaraj played Rajinikanth’s father. Interestingly, Sathyaraj had previously turned down roles in some of Rajinikanth’s earlier films like Enthiran and Sivaji.
Coolie marks Rajinikanth’s 171st film and centers on the theme of gold smuggling. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has clarified that the film will be a standalone story and will not be part of his much-discussed Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
