Ranchi — The Ranchi ashram of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India commemorated the 74th Mahasamadhi anniversary of its founder, Paramahansa Yogananda, with a Sadhu Bhandara attended by monks and spiritual leaders from various organisations.
The revered spiritual master, widely known for his teachings on Kriya Yoga and the inspirational classic Autobiography of a Yogi, entered mahasamadhi on March 7, 1952. His followers across the world observe the day through prayer, meditation and service activities.
At the Ranchi ashram, about 50 sadhus and sadhavis from different ashrams and spiritual organisations gathered for the occasion. They were honoured with a traditional meal and received shawls, garlands, clothing and a small honorarium as a token of appreciation for their spiritual lives.
Monks of the Yogoda Satsanga Society themselves served the visiting sadhus during the Bhandara, highlighting the tradition of humility and reverence towards spiritual seekers.
Among the organisations represented at the gathering were the Ramakrishna Mission, Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Shri Shri Anandamayi Sangh, along with Matrikashram, Chinmaya Ashram, Maharshi Mehi Ashram and Ram Mandir.
The Ranchi ashram remains an important centre in the legacy of Paramahansa Yogananda, as it was the site where he founded his first Yogoda Satsanga educational institution in 1917, aimed at blending spiritual values with modern learning.
The annual observance reflects YSS’s continuing commitment to service, spiritual fellowship and the preservation of India’s timeless spiritual traditions.
