Rooftop solar systems to be installed at 1400 government buildings: Power Secretary

Ranchi, Sep 20: Jharkhand’s Secretary of the Power Department Nitin Madan Kulkarni said that to encourage solar power in the state it has been decided to set up roof top solar system on 1400 government buildings which would help to generate 20 MW of additional power in the state.

Addressing a press conference at the Suchana Bhawan here he said that these grid connected rooftop solar power plants would be installed at all government buildings, private buildings, commercial establishments. He said that for residential consumers the people would be given 50 front grants while other commercial establishments would get 10 per cent grants.

Mr Kulkarni said that to encourage the use of Led bulbs in the state under the Ujala Yojana the government has distributed more than 1 crore Led bulbs which has helped to save 13.82 lakh megawatt of power and has helped to save Rs 553 crore of the state government. On the other hand the carbon di oxide emission has been reduced by 11.19 lakh tones. He said that in the first phase focus as to distribute Led in the urban areas while now LED bulbs would be distributed among the rural areas and in next few months 2 crore LED bulbs would be distributed.

Mr Kulkarni said the government was undertaking electrification of villages and so far electrification of 2132 villages have been done while the remaining 337 villages would be electrified soon. He said that to provide quality power to the people of the state 359 power stations is being set up. He said that on a mission mode burnt transformers are being changed.

Managing Director of Bijli Nigam Rahul Purwar said that AT and C losses have been reduced in the state. He said that prior to the formation of the corporation the loss was 40 pc which has now reduced to 27-28 pc and the target has been set to bring the losses to 22 pc by the end of March 31, 2018.
