RIMS doctors save nine-year-old girl after 12 days on ventilator, four dialysis sessions

Ranchi: Doctors at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, have successfully treated a nine-year-old girl who was admitted in critical condition with a severe diabetic emergency and acute kidney failure. After spending 12 days on ventilator support and undergoing four dialysis sessions, the child has recovered significantly and is now preparing to return home.

The girl, who has Type 1 diabetes, was brought to RIMS in a critical condition. At the time of admission, she was unable to breathe on her own and required ventilator support.

Under continuous medical supervision, she remained on the ventilator for 12 days. As her kidney function had also deteriorated, she underwent dialysis four times during the course of treatment.

Her condition gradually improved, allowing doctors to take her off ventilator support. Subsequent kidney function tests also showed significant improvement.

The child is now stable, eating normally and receiving regular insulin injections to keep her blood sugar levels under control. Doctors are preparing to discharge her, although her kidney function will continue to be monitored regularly after she returns home.

The treatment was carried out under the guidance of Dr (Prof.) P.K. Chaudhary, Head of the Department of Paediatrics, with support from the Nephrology Department’s Dr Pragya Pant and Dr Utkarsh Mishra.

The girl’s family expressed gratitude to the RIMS doctors and the entire medical team for their efforts in saving her life.
