Ranchi to Get Model Urban Corridor from Project Bhawan to Kanke, Encroachment Removal Drive Planned

RANCHI: The Jharkhand government has initiated another major step to improve traffic management and urban infrastructure in the state capital. Authorities have begun preparations to develop a model urban corridor stretching from Project Bhawan in Dhurwa to Kanke. The proposed corridor will cover the route from Kanke Ram Mandir through Justice L.P.N. Shahdeo Chowk, Ratu Road Chowk and Harmu Bypass, with the aim of making the entire stretch free from encroachments and traffic congestion while improving safety, cleanliness and greenery. The action plan was reviewed in a meeting chaired by Ranchi Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav.

The initiative is not limited to removing illegal encroachments. Officials said the project will also focus on scientific planning and management of roads, footpaths, parking spaces, auto stands, vending zones and other public facilities. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation plans to develop the entire stretch as a model urban corridor, with three dedicated teams to oversee encroachment removal, traffic management, road maintenance and civic amenities. The campaign will be carried out in a phased and time-bound manner to ensure that encroachments do not return.

The Municipal Commissioner directed the engineering wing to conduct a detailed survey of the corridor, including the Harmu Bypass, and construct new footpaths wherever they are missing. Existing footpaths blocked by encroachments or other obstacles will be cleared immediately. The land management wing has also been asked to carry out a measurement survey along both sides of the road from Kanke Ram Mandir Chowk to Project Bhawan to identify commercial establishments that have illegally occupied government land or road space.

To enhance the appearance of the corridor, the project will include vertical gardens, green patches, attractive wall paintings and other beautification measures. Officials also directed that a permanent auto stand be developed on Ranchi Municipal Corporation land near the Naga Baba Khatal vegetable market to improve traffic movement and public convenience.
