Proposal would be sent to Centre from Assembly over separate Sarna religious Code: Rameshwar Oraon

Ranchi: JPCC Chief and Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon said that a proposal would be passed from the assembly and sent to the Centre demanding declaration of separate Sarna Religion Code.

Addressing a function organised on the occasion of the World Tribal Day he exuded hope that the centre would approve the separate religion code. Mr Oraon said that the tribal community too played a very important role in the nation’s freedom struggle movement.

He said that before the first war of Independence the Santhal Rebellion, Hul Rebellion took place in the state and later the Tana Bhagats took forward the fight against the British Rule. He said that after the nation got independence concrete steps were taken to protect the rights of the community.

He said that it was the Congress government which strengthen the CNT and SPT Acts, brought strict laws to protect the land of the tribals. The minister claimed that the BJP had tried to make changes in the land acquisition act of 2013 but due to the efforts of the party the BJP could not realise its intentions.

Leader of the legislature wing of Congress party and Rural Development Minister Alamgir Aalam said that during the tenure of the Congress party laws were framed to protect land forest and water of the tribals and an honest effort was made to ensure all-round development of the community.  He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren the government was working for the betterment of all the sections of the society.

Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu, former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahai, Cabinet Minister Badal and other leaders also addressed the function. The party also felicitated tribal candidates who had cleared UPSC, topper of 12th board exams, social workers etc.
